Members will be exposed to techniques for obtaining smooth cut edges, retain proper dimensions after cutting, and hole sizing accuracy, through proper selection of cutting components.
Projects will include fabrication of angle clips, strong backs, and various configurations of cover plates along with "scarfing" applications.

Required from member:   Hardhat, safety glasses, scribe, work attire, work boots, leather gloves, long sleeve shirt, UBC number.

Blueprint/Layout
Students will be instructed on blueprint standards and how to analize them for errors.
We will go through prints ranging from excellent to very poor. This will give students the opportunity to determine if information is missing and, if so, how to find the answers.  Students will learn to read an architect scale and see how some prints can be scaled, while others can not.
This course includes basic geometry and math principles concerning circles and triangles. Students will learn the functions of a construction calculator to solve typical layout procedures and problems. These functions include, but are not limited to, converting meteric to standard, angles to degrees, feet and inches to decimal, board feet problems, stair layout, run, rise & diagonal calculations, etc.
Students will also be presented with a series of  layout problems. These activities will help students learn how to obtain layout solutions for fabrication and installation through 'hands-on' exercises.
